Royal Television Society Awards Nomination

The Royal Television Society (RTS) today announced it's 2020 nominations. Alex and Anoushka Shankar are nominated in the category of 'Best Original Title Music' for A SUITABLE BOY. The limited series directed by Mira Nair is now playing on BBC iPlayer in the UK, Netflix (World-Wide) and Acorn TV (USA).

Silva Screen Records releases soundtrack to A Suitable Boy

Silva Screen Records has released the original soundtrack album of A Suitable Boy to coincide with the worldwide series release on Netflix. The score features a collaboration between Alex Heffes and world-renowned sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar. Based on Vikram Seth’s epic 1300-page book it follows the fortunes of Lata Mehra and four large families at the time of Indian partition. The series is directed by Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding) and marks Alex's second collaboration Mira following Disney's Queen Of Katwe. The score was recorded remotely during the pandemic and features some of India's top musical talent. The album, which also features original songs by renowned singer Kavita Seth is available digitally now and will be followed by a double CD and vinyl release in November.

Ronnie's Opening at Everyman Cinemas this week

The feature documentary RONNIES which follows the life and legendary club of Ronnie Scott opens this week in Everyman Cinemas UK. Directed by Oliver Murray, RONNIES is an affectionate and spellbinding tribute to the club and the man behind it. The film has a vast array of incredible (and some unseen) archive performances from Oscar Peterson, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and many more. The moving and insightful story is underpinned by Alex's thematic score which features Alec Dankworth on Bass, Trish Clowes on Soprano Sax and Alex Heffes on piano.

The 24th Now Playing on Streaming Platforms

Powerful WWI drama The 24th comes to streaming platforms on August 21st. Directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Wilmott (BlacKkKlansman, Da 5 Bloods ) The 24th follows the true story of the all-Black 24th Infantry Regiment and the Houston Riot of 1917. Following brutal racial violence at the hands of Houston police officers the riot left dead nine civilians, four policemen and two soldiers and resulted in the largest murder trial in history. Led by a remarkable cast (Trai Byers, Bashir Salahuddin, Aja Naomi King & Mykelti Williamson) the film depicts a tragic piece of living history. Alex's powerful score featuring orchestra, choir and solo cello was recorded in London.

Mira's Nair's adaptation of Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy comes to BBC and Netflix. The score features Alex's collaboration with world renowned sitar player Anoushka Shankar. Recorded remotely across 3 continents during the pandemic the music also features a raft of world-class indian classical perfomers. Alex re-unites with Mira Nair after their collaboration on Disney's Queen of Katwe. A Suitable Boy has been years in the making an is unmissable TV drama. A Suitable Boy is now available in the UK on BBC iPlayer and World-Wide on Netflix.
