Alex has won a Hollywood Music In Media Awards for his score for Roots. The 7th annual Hollywood Music In Media Awards was held Thursday at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Other winners included Nicholas Britell for 'Moonlight', John Debney for 'The Jungle Book', Alexandre Desplat for 'The Secret Life of Pets' and Justin Timberlake, Max Martin and Shellback for 'Can’t Stop the Feeling' from 'Trolls'
Roots, which premiered on the History Channel in the US, featured a stellar cast including Laurence Fishburne , Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose & Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The 4 part miniseries is set over 4 generations of the same family. The series garnered rave reviews and a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Alex's score contains more than 4 hours of music and features singers and players recorded in Gambia as well as African percussion and orchestra.
