Columbia Pictures' thriller Miss Bala opens in US theatres on Feb 1st 2019. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke the film follows Gloria (Gina Rodriguez) who finds a power she never knew she had when she is drawn into a dangerous world of cross-border crime. BBC Worldwide has unveiled a ground-breaking new immersive soundtrack album of Alex's music combining environmental effects and score in stunning 3D sound. This is the world's first soundtrack album to be released in Dolby Atmos® or Dolby TrueHD 7.1 or 5.1 for enabled home cinema surround sound systems. To allow listeners to enjoy the album's immersive surround sound environment without a home cinema there will also be a binaural (headphone) format release to create an immersive psycho-acoustic experience that can be enjoyed using any pair of ordinary good quality headphones. The album will be available on Blueray disc and digital.

The International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) has announced its list of nominees for excellence in musical scoring in 2017. Alex's score to EARTH: ONE AMAZING DAY was nominated in the category of best original score for a documentary. AMAZING DAY is the sequel to the hugely popular EARTH and boasts some of the finest ever wildlife footage from the BBC. The LA Times says:: “The score from Alex Heffes highlights the emotion in each scene, expertly easing the transition as the tone changes from moment to moment.” “…a stunning feat of technology and artistry.” Alex's score is available on Edsel Records as a double colour vinyl LP and CD.
Next of Kin starts on UK ITV on Jan 8th 2018. The 6 part drama stars Archie Panjabi and Jack Davenport as husband and wife who struggle to keep their family together after the death of Kareem Shirani in Pakistan and the unexplained disappearance of Danish. The mini series sees Alex paired together with director Justin Chadwick (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, The First Grader).
